Interim Leadership

A Steady Hand, Without the Drama

If you’re reading this, chances are something significant is happening. Maybe a CEO has stepped aside and the board needs cover. Maybe performance has drifted and pressure from investors is building. Maybe you are the CEO yourself, looking for someone to share the load. And sometimes it is a member of the management team simply checking who this “interim CEO” actually is.

For clarity, it is not always about me stepping in as CEO. Sometimes I take the chair directly. Other times I work alongside the incumbent CEO, providing additional bandwidth and operational support when the demands are heavy. Titles matter far less than outcomes. What matters is bringing calm, stability, and momentum back into the business.

How I Work

My approach is straightforward and people-centred. I support management teams rather than undermine them, and I make sure operational priorities are clear and realistic. I keep communication flowing between board, funders, and leadership, and I focus on helping the business protect value and rebuild momentum.

Sometimes I take the CEO seat directly. Other times I stand alongside the existing CEO, giving them breathing space, extra bandwidth, and practical operational support. Over the years I have held every kind of title, and I have learned that the label matters less than the outcome. What counts is creating clarity, rebuilding rhythm, and keeping the business moving.

Every situation is different, but the principles stay the same: steady the ship, give people confidence, and move forward without unnecessary noise.

In Brief

In Brief

  • Support for management teams, not disruption

  • Clear and realistic operational priorities

  • Open communication across board, funders, and leadership

  • Protecting value and rebuilding momentum

  • Taking the CEO seat when needed, or standing alongside the incumbent CEO to provide bandwidth and support

  • Focused on outcomes, not titles

A Personal Note

I do not pretend to be available at the drop of a hat. If I am already on assignment, timing has to be considered. But if what you need is someone who has been through this before, who can work respectfully with your team while reassuring the board and investors, then it is worth us having a conversation.
